As you know, the 2024 Democratic National Convention is a presidential nominating convention in which delegates of the United States Democratic Party will select the party’s nominees for president and vice president in the 2024 United States presidential election. But did you also know that from 1832 to 1936, any nomination for president or vice-president was required to have a majority of two-thirds of the total number of delegates? Unless there was a popular incumbent, something that only happened three times between the Civil War and World War II, getting that many votes on the first ballot was virtually impossible.
